Mr Mason is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in upper limb surgery, particularly of the hand and wrist.

I qualified in Cambridge and undertook my general surgical training in Bath, Bristol and Newport. My Orthopaedic training was in Southampton and at the end of this I had the opportunity to work in Sydney for a year's fellowship at Royal North Shore Hospital, a large tertiary referral centre where I gained experience in all aspects of hand surgery.

Apart from treating common hand, wrist and shoulder disorders I have an interest in children's hand disorders, tendon reconstruction and the management of spasticity in the upper limb, including cerebral palsy. I also have an interest in hand injuries and have established a hand trauma clinic in Gloucester. I perform arthroscopic surgery for the wrist and shoulder.

Previously I have presented and published widely in Orthopaedics but my current focus outside my clinical practice is on education of Junior Doctors.

I strongly believe that much of the improvement from hand surgery relates to the all-important aftercare provided by expert hand therapists. For this reason I maintain close links with all the hand therapists I work with to ensure that my patients receive the best possible holistic treatment both before and after surgery.
